Artist Emi Mizuno Teixeira was born and raised in Japan. She moved to the U.S. in 2008 and graduated from the University of California, Irvine with a B.A. in Studio Arts.

She works with a mixture of paper cutouts and other mediums. Her art often focuses on current issues in our society, but other times, she just makes what she thinks is beautiful. She likes the combination of geometric and organic, natural and man-made. Her work is delicate, intricate, and detailed.

She says, “In this piece, I caged the “Three Wise Monkeys,” who embody the principle of “See No Evil, Hear No Evil, Speak No Evil.” The proverb is an archetype of those who refuse to acknowledge important issues. There are many things in our society that people turn a blind eye to, and sheltered animals are one of them. In this artwork, those who ignore are the ones who are caged.”
